Patient Instructions for GTT Blood Test
Glucose Tolerance Test requires proper fasting, timely samples, and patient cooperation for accurate results.
Before Coming to the Laboratory
- Fast for 8–12 hours before the test.
- Drink only plain water during fasting.
- Do not take tea, coffee, milk, juice, soft drinks, alcohol, chewing gum, or tobacco.
- Avoid heavy exercise the previous evening and on the morning of the test.
- Continue medicines only as advised by your doctor.
- Inform the lab if you are pregnant, diabetic, unwell, or on any medications.
During the Test
- A fasting blood sample will be collected first.
- You will be given a measured glucose drink as advised by your doctor.
- Blood samples will be collected at fixed time intervals.
- Please remain in the laboratory until all samples are completed.
- Do not eat, drink anything except water, smoke, or walk around unnecessarily during the test.
Important
If you feel nausea, vomiting, sweating, giddiness, or weakness during the test, immediately inform the laboratory staff.
After the Test
- You may eat your regular food after the final sample is collected.
- Take your regular medicines as advised by your doctor.
- Report collection time will be informed by the laboratory staff.
